Exit Slip 5/6/10

The overall task of Fridays lesson was to find the minimum of our graphed functions {SA} to later save on a computer as a picture and upload the images to our google docs.
This was necessary because later on this will be used for the visual part of our PBAT. This is also a skill that we can use later on in the future.

Exit Slip Help!

With the new surface area formula I will be able to find the best size for the can.

Exit Slip

It is necessary for us to combine two formulas because there are formulas that in oder to be solved require the value of something tha is unknown. In order to find the unkown we have to follow another formula. By doing this we are able to substitute the answer for the unknown to solve for the other formula.

Exit Slip 4/30/10 Overall Task

The Campbells Soup company has had complaints from the consumers regarding the amount of material being used per can. The goal is to make the cans have a smaller surface area, yet to keep the original volume. Since the cans are shaped like a cyilinder the goal can be acomplished by changing the height and the radius of the can. In general the task of this PBAT is to reduce the amount of material being used in each can for the Campbells Soup company.

Exit slip 4/23/10

I was absent on Friday April 23, so I did not help my teacher, or myself.
From the assigment I was able to learn how to measure a can by measuring the diameter and the height of my can. With this information I am able to find the volume of the can and the surface area by using the formulas volume of a cylinder and surface area of a cylinder. There skills can help me with everyday life, like
when I cook in the future. In order for me to know if a cake will fit a metal pan,
I will have to figure out the pans dimensions. {If its not labeled}.
I dont have a question but I would like for Wan to go over the Suface Area
formula one more time since I was not present.

Exit Slip 4/29/10

The important concept of todays lesson was identifying the relationship between length and height, and finding the height of our cans by using the givens for the volume of our cylinders.
We used a calculator as our mathematical tool to help us divide decimals. Our aproximations are more accurate when we use a calculator because the pi is more exact.

Comparing the two functions on the board.

The graph shows two functions. Both functions make a curve and make a mirror reflection. In comparison to y1, y2 is more narrow, and is located at the bottom of the graph. There is also a vertical shift between both functions. Function y2 starts at [-10, -600} and ends at {8, -390}. Function y1 starts at {-10,400} and ends at {8,300}.

Marlene P.
TODAY WE COMPARED TWO FUNCTIONS BY SETTING A TABLE THAT SHOWS THE DEGREES OF EACH FUNCTION, AND EACH OF THE FUNCTIONS. THE TABLE WAS COMPLETED BY CHECKING IF THE DEGREES MATCHED ANY OF EXPONENTS BETWEEN YOUR TERMS

My D/E Slip

1} I learned how to create a Spreadsheet on Google docs. I learned how to make a graph and edit them.
2}The only problem I had today was clicking on the smaller box on the bottom right of each cell, correctly in order to create the consistent pattern of the table.

My progress so far!

I generalized by following the same rules and using variables to make things 5 times as much and 3 times as much. I can use any number to make the box bigger or smaller this way. When it was time to graph I took a look at my tables to figure out my minimum and maximum values. I then planned a scale and checked it on a calculator by graphing the function and checking the graphs appearence. I adjusted the window settings by changing the X and Y scales.
When organizing my data into different tables we simply had a different table for each of our functions. Each table had the X and Y values.
Our results showed that the function (130-4x)(x)(x) has the maximum valume out the four funtions that we graphed. The maximum value was 20342 cubic inches. This box was 1 time as big.

my classwork and homework

i wont be able to complete the online assignment because i have not completed classwork and cannot find the sheet with the table and all that good stuff.

Picture Reminder

we were all supposed o upload an appropiate picture, but apparently we have forgotten to.

My questions

1]How many people will be working per group?
2]When will we officially start working on the project?
3]Are we going to use Blogger for the rest of the semester or is it only going to be used while we work on this project?
